Verse:001
Abdul Daryabadi : By the Dawn,
Dr. Mohsin : By the dawn;
Mufti Taqi Usmani : I swear by the dawn,
Pickthal : By the Dawn
Yusuf Ali : By the Break of Day


Verse:002
Abdul Daryabadi : and by the ten nights,
Dr. Mohsin : By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hîjjah) [],
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And by Ten Nights, [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : And ten nights,
Yusuf Ali : By the Nights twice five;


Verse:003
Abdul Daryabadi : and by the even and the odd,
Dr. Mohsin : And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allâh)[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And by the even and the odd, [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : And the Even and the Odd,
Yusuf Ali : By the Even and Odd (contrasted);


Verse:004
Abdul Daryabadi : and by night when it departs
Dr. Mohsin : And by the night when it departs
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And by the night when it moves away,
Pickthal : And the night when it departeth,
Yusuf Ali : And by the Night when it passeth away―


Verse:005
Abdul Daryabadi : indeed in them is an oath for man of sense.
Dr. Mohsin : There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs)!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Is there (not) in such an oath (enough assurance) for a man of sense?__
Pickthal : There surely is an oath for thinking man.
Yusuf Ali : Is there (not) in these and adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand?


Verse:006
Abdul Daryabadi : Did thou not see how thy Lord dealt with the Ad,
Dr. Mohsin : Saw you (O Muhammad (SAW)) not how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with (the people) of ‘Ad
Pickthal : Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad,
Yusuf Ali : Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the `Ad (people)―


Verse:007
Abdul Daryabadi : and the people of many-columned Iram,
Dr. Mohsin : Of Iram (Who were very tall) like (lofty) pillars,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Of Iram , the men of tall pillars,
Pickthal : With many-columned Iram,
Yusuf Ali : Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars,


Verse:008
Abdul Daryabadi : the like of which was not built in the cities,
Dr. Mohsin : The like of which were not created in the land?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : The like of whom were never created in the lands, [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : The like of which was not created in the lands;
Yusuf Ali : The like of which were not produced in (all) the land?


Verse:009
Abdul Daryabadi : and with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale?
Dr. Mohsin : And (with) Thamûd (people), who hewed out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)?[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And (how He dealt) with (the people of) Thamud who had carved out the rocks in the Valley (of Qura),
Pickthal : And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley;
Yusuf Ali : And with the Thamud (people) who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?--


Verse:010
Abdul Daryabadi : And with Firawn, owner of the stakes --
Dr. Mohsin : And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had the stakes (to torture men by binding them to stakes)?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And with Fir‘aun (Pharaoh), the man of the stakes, [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : And with Pharaoh, firm of might,
Yusuf Ali : And with Pharaoh, Lord of Stakes?


Verse:011
Abdul Daryabadi : who all waxed exorbitant in the cities;
Dr. Mohsin : Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allâh).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Those who had rebelled in the cities,
Pickthal : Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands,
Yusuf Ali : (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands.


Verse:012
Abdul Daryabadi : so they multiplied corruption therein,
Dr. Mohsin : And made therein much mischief.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And spread a lot of mischief therein.
Pickthal : And multiplied iniquity therein?
Yusuf Ali : And heaped therein Mischief (on mischief).


Verse:013
Abdul Daryabadi : So thy Lord inflicted on them the scourage of His chastisement.
Dr. Mohsin : So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So, your Lord let loose on them the whip of torment.
Pickthal : Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment.
Yusuf Ali : Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse Chastisement:


Verse:014
Abdul Daryabadi : Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade.
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Surely your Lord is ever on the watch.
Pickthal : Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful.
Yusuf Ali : For thy Lord is (As a Guardian) on a watch-tower.


Verse:015
Abdul Daryabadi : As for man -- when his Lord tries him and honours him, and is bountiful to him, he says: my Lord has honoured me.
Dr. Mohsin : As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and bounties, then he says (in): "My Lord has honoured me."
Mufti Taqi Usmani : As for man, when his Lord tests him, and thus gives him honour and bounties, he says, “My Lord has honoured me.”
Pickthal : As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me.
Yusuf Ali : Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up) "My Lord hath honoured me."


Verse:016
Abdul Daryabadi : And when his lord tries him and stints unto him his provision, he says: my lord has despised me.
Dr. Mohsin : But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : But when he tests him, and thus straitens his provision for him, he says, “My Lord has disgraced me.”
Pickthal : But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me.
Yusuf Ali : But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair) "My Lord hath humiliated me!"


Verse:017
Abdul Daryabadi : No indeed I but you do not honour the orphan,
Dr. Mohsin : Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : No! But you do not honour the orphan,
Pickthal : Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan
Yusuf Ali : Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans!


Verse:018
Abdul Daryabadi : nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor,
Dr. Mohsin : And urge not one another on the feeding of AlMiskîn (the poor)!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And do not encourage one another to feed the needy.
Pickthal : And urge not on the feeding of the poor.
Yusuf Ali : Nor, do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!―


Verse:019
Abdul Daryabadi : and you devour the inheritance greedily,
Dr. Mohsin : And you devour inheritance all with greed,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And you devour the inheritance with a sweeping gulp,
Pickthal : And ye devour heri***es with devouring greed.
Yusuf Ali : And ye devour inheritance― all with greed.


Verse:020
Abdul Daryabadi : and you love riches with exceeding love.
Dr. Mohsin : And you love wealth with much love!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And love wealth, an excessive love.
Pickthal : And love wealth with abounding love.
Yusuf Ali : And ye love wealth with inordinate love!


Verse:021
Abdul Daryabadi : No indeed I when the earth is ground with exceeding grinding,
Dr. Mohsin : Nay! When the earth is ground to powder,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : No! When the earth will be crushed thoroughly to be turned into bits,
Pickthal : Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding,
Yusuf Ali : Nay! when the earth is pounded to powder,


Verse:022
Abdul Daryabadi : and comes thy Lord and the angles, rank on rank,
Dr. Mohsin : And your Lord comes with the angels in rows,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And your Lord will come, [QETafseerComment] and the angels as well, lined up in rows,
Pickthal : And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank,
Yusuf Ali : And thy Lord cometh, and His angels rank upon rank,


Verse:023
Abdul Daryabadi : and hell that Day is brought near. man on that Day shall remember, but how can remembrance avail him them?
Dr. Mohsin : And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And Jahannam (Hell), on that day, will be brought forward, it will be the day when man will realize the truth, but from where will he take advan***e of such realization?
Pickthal : And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)?
Yusuf Ali : And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face) on that Day will man remember but how will that remembrance profit him?


Verse:024
Abdul Daryabadi : Man will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine.
Dr. Mohsin : He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : He will say, “O Would that I had sent ahead (some good deeds) for (this) my life!”
Pickthal : He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life!
Yusuf Ali : He will say: "Ah! would that I had sent forth (Good Deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life."


Verse:025
Abdul Daryabadi : So on that Day none shall torment any like His torment,
Dr. Mohsin : So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So no one can punish like He will punish, that day,
Pickthal : None punisheth as He will punish on that day!
Yusuf Ali : For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict,


Verse:026
Abdul Daryabadi : nor shall blind any like His bond.
Dr. Mohsin : And none will bind (the wicked, disbelivers and polytheists) as He will bind.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Nor can anyone shackle like He will shackle.
Pickthal : None bindeth as He then will bind.
Yusuf Ali : And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind.


Verse:027
Abdul Daryabadi : O thou peaceful soul!
Dr. Mohsin : (It will be said to the pious — believers of Islamic Monothesim): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : As for an obedient man, it will be said to him,) “O content soul,
Pickthal : But ah! thou soul at peace!
Yusuf Ali : (To the righteous soul will be said "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction!


Verse:028
Abdul Daryabadi : Return unto thy Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing.
Dr. Mohsin : "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing (unto Him)!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Come back to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure!
Yusuf Ali : "Come back thou to thy Lord well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him!


Verse:029
Abdul Daryabadi : Enter thou among My righteous bondmen,
Dr. Mohsin : "Enter you, then, among My (honoured) slaves,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So, enter among My (special) servants,
Pickthal : Enter thou among My bondmen!
Yusuf Ali : "Enter thou, then among my Devotees!


Verse:030
Abdul Daryabadi : and enter thou My Garden.
Dr. Mohsin : "And enter you My Paradise!"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And enter My Paradise.”
Pickthal : Enter thou My Garden!
Yusuf Ali : "Yea, enter thou my Heaven"!
