Verse:001
Abdul Daryabadi : By the angels who drag forth vehemently.
Dr. Mohsin : By those (angels) who pull out (the souls of the disbelievers and the wicked) with great violence;
Mufti Taqi Usmani : I swear by those (angels) who pull out (the souls of the infidels) with extreme force, [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : By those who drag forth to destruction,
Yusuf Ali : By the (angels) who tear out (the souls of the wicked) with violence;


Verse:002
Abdul Daryabadi : By the angels who release with gentle release.
Dr. Mohsin : By those (angels) who gently take out (the souls of the believers);
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And by those (angels) who untie the knot (of the souls of the believers) smoothly,
Pickthal : By the meteors rushing,
Yusuf Ali : By those who gently draw out (the souls of the blessed);


Verse:003
Abdul Daryabadi : By the angels who glide swimmingiy,
Dr. Mohsin : And by those that swim along (i.e. angels or planets in their orbits).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And by those who float (in the atmosphere) swiftly,
Pickthal : By the lone stars floating,
Yusuf Ali : And by those who glide along (on errands of mercy),


Verse:004
Abdul Daryabadi : And then they speed with foremost speed.
Dr. Mohsin : And by those that press forward as in a race (i.e. the angels or stars or the horses)
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Then proceed forward quickly,
Pickthal : By the angels hastening,
Yusuf Ali : Then press forward as in a race,


Verse:005
Abdul Daryabadi : And then they manage the affair,
Dr. Mohsin : And by those angels who arrange to do the Commands of their Lord, (so verily, you disbelievers will be called to account).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Then manage (to do) everything (they are ordered to do,)
Pickthal : And those who govern the event,
Yusuf Ali : Then arrange to do (the commands of their Lord)―


Verse:006
Abdul Daryabadi : A Day shall come whereon the quaking will quake,
Dr. Mohsin : On the Day (when the first blowing of the Trumpet is blown), the earth and the mountains will shake violently (and everybody will die),
Mufti Taqi Usmani : You will be resurrected) on the Day when the shocking event (i.e. the first blowing of the trumpet) will shock (everything),
Pickthal : On the day when the first trump resoundeth.
Yusuf Ali : One Day everything that can be in commotion will be in violent commotion―


Verse:007
Abdul Daryabadi : And there will follow it the next blast.
Dr. Mohsin : The second blowing of the Trumpet follows it (and everybody will be resurected),
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Followed by the next one (i.e. the second blowing of the trumpet.) [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : And the second followeth it,
Yusuf Ali : Followed by oft-repeated (commotions):


Verse:008
Abdul Daryabadi : Hearts on that Day will be throbbing;
Dr. Mohsin : (Some) hearts that Day will shake with fear and anxiety.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : On that day, hearts (of people) will be throbbing,
Pickthal : On that day hearts beat painfully
Yusuf Ali : Hearts that Day will be in agitation;


Verse:009
Abdul Daryabadi : Their looks will be downcast.
Dr. Mohsin : Their eyes will be downcast.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : With their eyes downcast.
Pickthal : While eyes are downcast
Yusuf Ali : Cast down will be (their owners') eyes.


Verse:010
Abdul Daryabadi : They say: shall we indeed be restored to the first state,
Dr. Mohsin : They say: "Shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state of life?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : They (the infidels) say, “Are we going to be brought back to our former state (of Life)?
Pickthal : (Now) they are saying: Shall we really be restored to our first state
Yusuf Ali : They say (now): "What! shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state?"―


Verse:011
Abdul Daryabadi : When we have become bones decayed!
Dr. Mohsin : "Even after we are crumbled bones?"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Is it when we are turned into decayed bones?”
Pickthal : Even after we are crumbled bones?
Yusuf Ali : "What!― When we shall have become rotten bones?"


Verse:012
Abdul Daryabadi : They say: that then shall be a losing return.
Dr. Mohsin : They say: "It would in that case, be a return with loss!"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : They say, “If so, that will be a harmful homecoming.” [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : They say: Then that would be a vain proceeding.
Yusuf Ali : They say: "It would, in that case be a return with loss!"


Verse:013
Abdul Daryabadi : It will be only one scaring shout,
Dr. Mohsin : But, it will be only a single Zajrah [shout (i.e., the second blowing of the Trumpet)]. (See Verse 37:19)
Mufti Taqi Usmani : In fact, it will be only a single harsh voice,
Pickthal : Surely it will need but one shout,
Yusuf Ali : But verily, it will be but a single (compelling) Cry.


Verse:014
Abdul Daryabadi : And lo! they all shall appear on the surface.
Dr. Mohsin : When, behold, they find themselves on the surface of the earth alive after their death,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And in no time they will be (brought) into the plain (of hashr).
Pickthal : And lo! they will be awakened.
Yusuf Ali : When behold they will be in the (full) awakening (to Judgment).


Verse:015
Abdul Daryabadi : Hath there come Unto thee the story of Musa!
Dr. Mohsin : Has there come to you the story of Mûsa (Moses)?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Has there come to you the narrative about Musa?
Pickthal : Hath there come unto thee the history of Moses?
Yusuf Ali : Has the story of Moses reached thee?


Verse:016
Abdul Daryabadi : Recall what time his Lord called Unto him in the holy vale of Tuwa.
Dr. Mohsin : When his Lord called him in the sacred valley of Tûwa.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Recall) when his Lord called to him in the blessed valley of Tuwa:
Pickthal : How his Lord called him in the holy vale of Tuwa,
Yusuf Ali : Behold, thy Lord did call to him in the sacred valley to Tuwa―


Verse:017
Abdul Daryabadi : Saying:go thou Unto Firawn; verily he hath waxen exorbitant.
Dr. Mohsin : Go to Fir'aun (Pharaoh), verily, he has transgressed all bounds (in crimes, sins, polytheism, disbelief).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Go to Fir‘aun (Pharaoh). Indeed, he has crossed all bounds.
Pickthal : (Saying Go thou unto Pharaoh - Lo! he hath rebelled -
Yusuf Ali : "Go thou to Pharaoh, for he has indeed transgressed all bounds.


Verse:018
Abdul Daryabadi : Then say thou: wouldst thou to be purified?
Dr. Mohsin : And say to him: "Would you purify yourself (from the sin of disbelief by becoming a believer)",
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And say (to him,) ‘Would you like to purify yourself,
Pickthal : And say (unto him): Hast thou (will) to grow (in grace)?
Yusuf Ali : "And say to him `Wouldst thou that thou shouldst be purified (from sin)?―


Verse:019
Abdul Daryabadi : Then shall guide thee Unto thy Lord so that thou shalt fear.
Dr. Mohsin : And that I guide you to your Lord, so you should fear Him?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And that I should guide you to your Lord, so that you fear (Him)?’”
Pickthal : Then I will guide thee to thy Lord and thou shalt fear (Him).
Yusuf Ali : "`And that I guide thee to thy Lord, so thou shouldst fear Him?' "


Verse:020
Abdul Daryabadi : Then he shewed him the great sign.
Dr. Mohsin : Then [Mûsa (Moses)] showed him the great sign (miracles).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So, he (Musa) showed him the biggest sign.
Pickthal : And he showed him the tremendous token.
Yusuf Ali : Then did (Moses) show him the Great Sign.


Verse:021
Abdul Daryabadi : Yet he belied and disobeyed.
Dr. Mohsin : But [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] belied and disobeyed;
Mufti Taqi Usmani : But he rejected and disobeyed,
Pickthal : But he denied and disobeyed,
Yusuf Ali : But (Pharaoh) rejected it and disobeyed (guidance);


Verse:022
Abdul Daryabadi : Then he turned back striving.
Dr. Mohsin : Then he turned his back, striving (against Allâh)
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Then he turned back, and tried hard (to refute the Messenger),
Pickthal : Then turned he away in haste,
Yusuf Ali : Further, he turned his back, striving hard (against Allah).


Verse:023
Abdul Daryabadi : Then he gathered and cried aloud,
Dr. Mohsin : Then he gathered (his people) and cried aloud,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Then he gathered (his people) and shouted
Pickthal : Then gathered he and summoned
Yusuf Ali : Then he collected (his men) and made a proclamation,


Verse:024
Abdul Daryabadi : And he said: I am Your Lord, most high.
Dr. Mohsin : Saying: "I am your lord, most high",
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And said, “I am your supreme lord.”
Pickthal : And proclaimed: "I (Pharaoh) am your Lord the Highest."
Yusuf Ali : Saying "I am your Lord, Most High."


Verse:025
Abdul Daryabadi : Wherefore Allah laid hold of him with the punishment of the Hereafter and of the present.
Dr. Mohsin : So Allâh, seized him with punishment for his last and first transgression. [Tafsir At-Tabari]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So, Allah seized him for an exemplary punishment in the Hereafter and the present world.
Pickthal : So Allah seized him (and made him) an example for the after (life) and for the former.
Yusuf Ali : But Allah did punish him, (and made an) example of him― in the Hereafter, as in this life.


Verse:026
Abdul Daryabadi : Verily herein is lesson for him who feareth.
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, in this is an instructive admonition for whosoever fears Allâh.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Indeed, there is a lesson for him who fears (Allah).
Pickthal : Lo! herein is indeed a lesson for him who feareth.
Yusuf Ali : Verily in this is an instructive warning for whosoever feareth (Allah):


Verse:027
Abdul Daryabadi : Are ye harder to create or the heaven which He hath builded?
Dr. Mohsin : Are you more difficult to create, or is the heaven that He constructed?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Is your creation more difficult or that of the sky? [QETafseerComment] He has built it,
Pickthal : Are ye the harder to create, or is the heaven that He built?
Yusuf Ali : What! are ye the more difficult to create or the heaven (above)? (Allah) hath constructed it:


Verse:028
Abdul Daryabadi : He hath raised the height thereof and perfected it.
Dr. Mohsin : He raised its height, and has perfected it,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : He has raised its height, then made it proper,
Pickthal : He raised the height thereof and ordered it;
Yusuf Ali : On high hath He raised its canopy, and He hath given it order and perfection.


Verse:029
Abdul Daryabadi : And He made dark its night, and brought forth its sunshine.
Dr. Mohsin : Its night He covers with darkness, and its forenoon He brings out (with light).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And darkened its night, and brought forth its daylight,
Pickthal : And He made dark the night thereof, and He brought forth the morn thereof.
Yusuf Ali : Its night doth He endow with darkness, and its splendour doth He bring out (with light).


Verse:030
Abdul Daryabadi : And the earth!- thereafter He stretched it out.
Dr. Mohsin : And after that He spread the earth;
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And, after that, He spread out the earth.
Pickthal : And after that He spread the earth,
Yusuf Ali : And the earth, moreover; hath He extended (to a wide expanse):


Verse:031
Abdul Daryabadi : And he brought forth therefrom its water, and its pasture.
Dr. Mohsin : And brought forth therefrom its water and its pasture;
Mufti Taqi Usmani : From it, He brought out its water and its meadows,
Pickthal : And produced therefrom the water thereof and the pasture thereof,
Yusuf Ali : He draweth out therefrom its water and its pasture;


Verse:032
Abdul Daryabadi : And the mountains! - He established them firm:
Dr. Mohsin : And the mountains He has fixed firmly,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And firmly fixed the mountains,
Pickthal : And He made fast the hills,
Yusuf Ali : And the mountains hath He firmly fixed―


Verse:033
Abdul Daryabadi : A provision for you and your cattle.
Dr. Mohsin : (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : All this) as a benefit to you and your cattle.
Pickthal : A provision for you and for your cattle.
Yusuf Ali : For use and convenience to you and your cattle.


Verse:034
Abdul Daryabadi : Then when the Grand Calamity shall come
Dr. Mohsin : But when there comes the greatest catastrophe (i.e. the Day of Recompense),
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So when the Greatest Havoc will take place
Pickthal : But when the great disaster cometh,
Yusuf Ali : Therefore when there comes the great, overwhelming (Event)


Verse:035
Abdul Daryabadi : The Day whereon man shall rember whatsoever he had striven for.
Dr. Mohsin : The Day when man shall remember what he strove for,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : On the day when man will recall what he did,
Pickthal : The day when man will call to mind his (whole) endeavour,
Yusuf Ali : The Day when Man shall remember (all) that he strove for


Verse:036
Abdul Daryabadi : And the Scorch will be made apparent to any one who beholdeth.
Dr. Mohsin : And Hell-fire shall be made apparent in full view for (every) one who sees,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And the Hell will be exposed for all who see,
Pickthal : And hell will stand forth visible to him who seeth,
Yusuf Ali : And Hell-Fire shall be placed in full view for (all) to see―


Verse:037
Abdul Daryabadi : Then as for him who waxed exorbitant
Dr. Mohsin : Then, for him who transgressed all bounds (in disbelief, oppression and evil deeds of disobedience to Allâh).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Then for the one who had rebelled,
Pickthal : Then, as for him who rebelled
Yusuf Ali : Then, for such as had transgressed all bounds,


Verse:038
Abdul Daryabadi : And who chose the life of the world
Dr. Mohsin : And preferred the life of this world (by following his evil desires and lusts),
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And preferred the worldly life (to the Hereafter),
Pickthal : And chose the life of the world,
Yusuf Ali : And had preferred the life of this world,


Verse:039
Abdul Daryabadi : Verily the Scorch! that shall be his resort.
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, his abode will be Hell-fire;
Mufti Taqi Usmani : The Hell will be the abode,
Pickthal : Lo! hell will be his home.
Yusuf Ali : The Abode will be Hell-Fire;


Verse:040
Abdul Daryabadi : And as for him who dreaded standing before his Lord, and restrained his soul from lust,
Dr. Mohsin : But as for him who feared standing before his Lord, and restrained himself from impure evil desires, and lusts.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Whereas for the one who feared to stand before his Lord, and restrained his self from the (evil) desire,
Pickthal : But as for him who feared to stand before his Lord and restrained his soul from lust,
Yusuf Ali : And for such as had entertained the fear of standing before their Lord's (tribunal) and had restrained (their) soul from lower Desires,


Verse:041
Abdul Daryabadi : Verily the Garden! -that shall be his resort.
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, Paradise will be his abode.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : The Paradise will be the abode.
Pickthal : Lo! the Garden will be his home.
Yusuf Ali : Their Abode will be the Garden.


Verse:042
Abdul Daryabadi : They question thee of the Hour:when will its arrival be?
Dr. Mohsin : They ask you (O Muhammad (SAW)) about the Hour, - when will be its appointed time?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : They ask you (O Prophet,) about the Hour (the Day of Judgment) as to when it will take place.
Pickthal : They ask thee of the Hour: when will it come to port?
Yusuf Ali : They ask thee about the Hour― `When will be its appointed time?'


Verse:043
Abdul Daryabadi : Wherein art thou concerred with the declaration thereof!
Dr. Mohsin : You have no knowledge to say anything about it,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : In which capacity are you to tell this?
Pickthal : Why (ask they)? What hast thou to tell thereof?
Yusuf Ali : Wherein art thou (concerned) with the declaration thereof?


Verse:044
Abdul Daryabadi : Unto thy Lord is the Knowledge of the limit fixed therefor.
Dr. Mohsin : To your Lord belongs (the knowledge of) the term thereof?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : With your Lord is the final word about it.
Pickthal : Unto thy Lord belongeth (knowledge of) the term thereof.
Yusuf Ali : With they Lord is the Limit fixed therefor.


Verse:045
Abdul Daryabadi : Thou art but a warner Unto him who feareth.
Dr. Mohsin : You (O Muhammad (SAW)) are only a warner for those who fear it,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : You are only a warner for anyone who fears it.
Pickthal : Thou art but a warner unto him who feareth it.
Yusuf Ali : Thou art but a Warner for such as fear it.


Verse:046
Abdul Daryabadi : On the Day whereon they behold it, it will appear to them as though they had not tarried save an evening or the morn thereof.
Dr. Mohsin : The Day they see it, (it will be) as if they had not tarried (in this world) except an afternoon or a morning.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : The day they will see it, it will seem to them as if they did not live (in the world) but only for one afternoon or for the morning thereof.
Pickthal : On the day when they behold it, it will be as if they had but tarried for an evening or the morn thereof.
Yusuf Ali : The Day they see it, (it will be) as if they had tarried but a single evening, or (at most till) the following morn!
